UMPIRE: Universal Metaproteome Inference

UMPIRE is a user-friendly bioinformatic software for metaproteomics. It creates optimal protein sequence databases for peptide identification directly from mass spectrometric data by inferring proteomes specific to a microbiota following the principle of parsimony. Comprehensive tests using various large MS raw datasets ranging from human gut microbiome to environmental samples such as seawater and soil have shown that UMPIRE-generated databases compare favorably to sample-specific metagenomic databases without underestimating FDR in database search.
